Rag rugs have a very long history starting in 18th century. Rag rugs came out of necessity to make use of all the things in the homes. People stpired their worn clothes and old blanket into stripes of wich rag rugs were made.

There is enormous amount of different fabric materials(wool, cotton, silk or any other) you can make your rag rugs of. But it is better not to use in same rug different types of materials.

Fabrics of differnt origin have different shrinkage. That means that if you mix them then your rag rug can be damage later. The choice of the material can be based on the qualities of rag rugs you want to achieve. For the softer rag rugs you should use cotton, and for stronger(and also more durable) and harder rag rugs wool is the best choice.
